Core stability is the strength and stability of your core muscles. Stability training can improve muscle stability and strengthen core muscles so that you are less likely to suffer from aches and pains, muscle sprains and strains, and other repetitive stress or overuse injuries. At Midtown Back & Neck Center, our chiropractor Dr. Terence Crowley has extensive experience in preventing injury, helping patients rehabilitate from injury and surgery, and improving muscle and core stability in St. Louis, MO

What Is Core Stability?

Core stability is a measurement or assessment of the ability of your core muscles to assist in proper posture, balance, movement, and function throughout everyday activities. The primary muscles used in core stability are the pelvic floor, abdominal, spinal, diaphragm, and oblique muscles. These muscles stabilize the center of your body while you move so that you are less likely to experience injury or aches and pains.

What Are Core Stability Protocols?

Core stability protocols are therapeutic exercises and stretches that engage the five components of core stability: strength, endurance, flexibility, motor control, and function. They enhance the five actions of the spine: flexion, extension, lateral flexion, rotation, and axial extension. These protocols protect the spine and surrounding muscles from overuse, repetitive stress, and injury.

What Are the Benefits of Stability Training?

A stable core reduces your risk of injuries and helps you maintain your mobility as you age. Core strength improves your athletic performance and makes exercise and training easier. Core and muscle stability will help you maintain your independence as you age, so that it is easier to manage daily activities.

How Can a Chiropractor Help You Strengthen Your Core?

Dr. Crowley and his team will provide personalized guidance and training through core stabilization exercises and stretches that enhance core strength, improve range of motion and function, enhance balance and posture, and improve mobility. We will design a highly individualized plan based on your goals. We may recommend combining muscle stability training with additional treatments to enhance your overall health and wellness.
